How can “science for sale” have deadly consequences to people, animals, aquatic life and the environment? I am referring specifically to an article recently published in the San Francisco Chronicle on April 21st 2017 titled “Dow seeks to kill findings of pesticide studies”*, written by Associated Press reporter Michael Biesecker. Mr. Biesecker points out that Dow Chemical is requesting the Trump administration to ignore the findings of federal scientists who have found that a family of widely used pesticides as being harmful to over 1,800 critically threatened or endangered species.* Dow Chemical so happens to manufacture these dangerous pesticides and the CEO of Dow Chemical is a close adviser to President Trump. Dow Chemical had also recently written a $1 million dollar check to help underwrite his inauguration celebration.*
Dow Chemical manufacturers a pesticide called chlorpyrifos, which has been scientifically proven to hinder the development of children’s brains.*** This poison was originally developed as a chemical weapon by Nazi Germany. I also refer to an article in the Sacramento Bee dated 6/23/14 titled “Pesticide Regions Linked to Autism”**. The article reviewed a scientific study*** published 6/3/14, by the University California at Los Angeles and the University of California at Davis, which showed that pregnant women who lived within one mile of an agricultural area, that was treated with this pesticide chlorpyrifos, were 60% more likely to give birth to a child with autism or other developmental disorders. Now I did say 60% here not 6% or 16% and this study was done with 1,000 women who lived within one mile of a pesticide treated agricultural area. The UC Davis study was clear on the devastating effects of this pesticide on pregnant women and that study demonstrated this poisons effect from one mile away. Now imagine spraying this inside your home, where we are not talking about a mile, but rather yards and feet!
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) published a report in its September 23 2011 “Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report” titled “Acute Illnesses Associated with Insecticides Used to Control Bed Bugs- Seven States, 2003-2010.**** This report discussed the potential health hazards associated with the use of toxic pyrethroid based pesticides. These pyrethroids are used in all home use insecticide products and they are toxic to humans, pets and the environment. Different forms of these pyrethroids are utilized for agricultural use and insect control, but scientific studies show any form of a pyrethroid to be dangerous.
Dow Chemical when making their request to set aside the science that has proved the dangers of these pesticides tries to suggest that there is a “greater good” being accomplished, by their use, as these compounds are widely used in agricultural spraying and are important to America’s farmers. In essence they help to feed America. That greater good they are suggesting is that more Americans eat at a reasonable food cost than the number who get sick or die. That is a perfectly good theory, which of course breaks down quickly if you happen to be one of those people who get ill or die from ingesting or being exposed to these chemicals. It should be pointed out that these chemicals are not permitted to be used in many European countries and the food costs are higher, but of course many fewer people become ill, due to their use. I guess everyone has to decide what is more important to them cheaper food or better health?
This is a very good time to point out that this “Sophie’s Choice” is not even really necessary. The basic formula that is used in our Lights Out product can easily be adapted for agricultural crop spraying. It is 100% non-toxic to humans, pets and the environment and may be slightly more expensive than the poisonous chemicals being used for crop spraying in this country now, but if you factor in the health costs of the illnesses and diseases associated with the use of the poisonous chlorpyifos crop spray it is undoubtedly a far cheaper and safer alternative, in the long term.
When I first began writing these blog articles a few years back it was strictly with the intent of providing the interested reader and current or potential Lights Out Bed Bug Killer customers information on the hazards of using poisonous insecticides in and around the home and explain the availability of this amazing new insect control product Lights Out which is 100% non-toxic to humans, pets and the environment and has true third party independent testing certifying its safety and efficacy. I was determined to only deal in proven facts and to never make a statement, product claim or venture an opinion that was not grounded with verifiable scientific studies and that would be just as true if I was going to discuss my own Lights Out product or the hazards of using poisonous insecticides. Michael Biesecker’s article now suggests to me that the facts that I hold so dear are no longer relevant, when the science behind them are for sale, for the simple price of a political contribution. This is especially chilling to note that setting aside these proven scientific facts can have deadly consequences for all life on our planet and our planet itself.
There are safe alternatives available to pesticides and herbicides? The state of California now makes it mandatory for the over-the-counter weed killer Round Up to be labeled as a toxic product and hazardous to a person’s health. Lights Out is a safe alternative for killing many types of insects. Our sister company Dr Greengood offers a number of insect killing products for head lice, cockroach control and pet flea and tick sprays that are also safe for humans pets and the environment. Using these products are a fine alternative to poisonous pesticides and also provide for a safer world for all of us.

A product guarantee is generally a very good thing.
